A Message from Chief David Petricca

On behalf of the members of the Ferris Fire Department, please allow me to welcome you to our website! The Ferris Fire Department is a unique and diverse group of dedicated firefighters on a mission for the citizens of the City of Ferris:

To Protect & Improve your Quality of Life  By Providing Responsive & Caring Service

The City of Ferris Fire Department proudly protects approximately 9000 residents living in an area of 29 square miles.  We operate out of two fire stations that protect both residential and commercial properties.  We have a fire protection class of three within the city limits and class five in our unincorporated area within 5 miles of the station.  Our department is a combination department whose members serve in either a paid or volunteer status. We have 3 full-time paid Captains, 8 part-time staff members, and 12 volunteers comprise our manpower.

While delivering services in the safest, most efficient manner practicable, we continually strive for the highest level of customer satisfaction possible.

Of the more than 1300 calls for assistance to which we respond each year, 74% are for emergency medical services (EMS). We provide both basic and advanced life support levels of EMS. In addition to emergency medical, fire and rescue responses, our Fire Prevention Division oversees fire inspections, arson investigation, plans review and life safety education programs as well.

A vital component of the Fire Department and Police Department is the Office of Emergency Management. Its primary responsibility is to plan for and mitigate any natural or man-made emergency that might threaten the City of Ferris.

Since September 11, 2001, the world and the fire service have changed dramatically. In response to new threats to the security of our homeland, the Ferris Fire Department’s Special Operations Teams constantly train in many disciplines. This Team consists of 12 cities within Ellis and Dallas County. E.D.U.C.T is this Specialty Teams Designation standing for Ellis Dallas Unified Cooperative Team. The Team consists of Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Swift Water Rescue Incident Response, and Communications teams all work together to form an all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness and response.

Additional programs offered by the Ferris Fire Department include Child Safety Seat Installations, Fire Station Tours, Fire Extinguisher Training, Safety Inspections, And Public Fire Education. Through these programs, our proactive approach to public safety and citizen involvement is best represented. We invite you to learn more about all of these programs and the services provided by the Ferris Fire Department.

I also encourage you to come visit with us about our “Volunteer Opportunities” you will find opportunities that will enable you to assist your community while learning valuable skills that may help save the life of a friend or family member. We value our citizens and corporate partnerships, as it is through these relationships that our Department is better equipped to complete our mission.

If you are visiting us, I welcome you to our City. If you are a resident of our City, please stop by your neighborhood fire station and meet your City’s firefighters and medics. We are proud to be YOUR Fire Department and stand ready to serve you whenever and wherever needed!
